The Barkhausen Institute performs research on the latest hardware, software and communication technologies and demonstrates their application in tomorrow's society. Our goal is to build a flexible and trustworthy IoT platform based on reliable electronics and secure communication methods.

The RF Design Enablement group researches and develops dependable IoT systems with focus on three key research topics such as joint radar-communication system, antenna-system design with meta-surface and physical layer security. We focus our research on designing building blocks, while identifying critical hardware parameters for next-generation hardware systems and applications.

To help pursue our research agenda, we are looking for a

Student Assistant – Material and Context Detection (m/f/d)

(up to 19 hours/week for 3-6 months) 

The project

The SHK will investigate standard, and institute developed antenna arrays for material and context detection in the field of joint communication and sensing. The research topic can be an external master thesis, and it can result in publications.

Your tasks

  • Perform over the air measurements with antennas and RF equipments
  • Plan different scenarios and analyze the data for different scenarios
  • Signal processing using python
  • Use machine learning algorithms for material and context detection

We expect the following

  • Study of computer, electrical/electronic engineering or comparable
  • Basic knowledge of microwave engineering and wireless communications theory
  • Prior experience of using RF measurement equipments preferred
  • Prior experience with machine learning algorithms preferred
  • Good communication and writing skills in English
